About Course Creator Rotimi Ogunjobi


My name is Rotimi Ogunjobi, and I am an author, poet, and storyteller.

For over four decades, I have dedicated myself to the craft of freelance writing and poetry. My creative work spans a wide range of genres, including novels, novellas, poetry books, plays, children's books, and collections of African folklore.

I have had the honor of my novel being long-listed in the final edition of the Commonwealth Book Prize. Additionally, I have received accolades for short stories in prose writing competitions. My literary contributions have appeared in esteemed publications such as Queens Quarterly (Canada), and my stories continue to be featured in various literary journals.

As a storyteller, I thrive on diversity and creativity across multiple mediums.

Why This Course

I created the course to celebrate and share the rich heritage of African folklore. African folktales are a treasure trove of wisdom, culture, and history that offer unique insights into the values, traditions, and worldviews of various African communities. 

By offering this course, I aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of these narratives, their cultural significance, and their impact on contemporary storytelling. The course is designed to be a valuable resource for scholars, educators, and creators who are interested in exploring diverse storytelling traditions, enhancing their own creative practices, and fostering a greater appreciation for cultural diversity. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a deeper connection to African heritage and to encourage the preservation and celebration of these timeless stories.
